A classic old Holland in a great all-around caliber. Bottom compartment has some light soiling & rubs along w/ some reblocking w/ a different colored cloth. Interior cloth is good w/ a label removed in lid. Case leather is fairly dark w/ numerous rubs & bumps. Bolt lever has been shortened so safety is not blocked. Bores are fine, strong rifling throughout w/ some light pitting in grooves toward breech ends. Stocks have nearly all of an old oil refinish w/ a few subsequent marks, checkering recut. CONDITION: very good, as mostly refinished. There is a notice label regarding extractors & cleaning in bottom of action compartment. Case also includes some cleaning equipment & two fired cases. Case contains an H&H marked oil bottle & two horn handled turn screws. Bottom section is separated by a divider. Charge card for this gun regulated w/ tropical 68 grain loading is over another charge card also in lid. A gold embossed black morocco leather H&H label is in lid. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: makers oak & leather case w/ brass corners & central medallion engraved "HE" is lined in burgundy cloth. Matching splinter forend has forward pivoting lever release. Very nicely marbled European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14 3/4" over red Silver type pad & features classic shadow line right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering at grip, along w/ a vacant silver oval w/ sling eye on toeline.
Steel trigger guard has S# on tang & extends to steel grip cap w/ trap. Locks, w/ dipped top edge are engraved "Holland & Holland". "Charge" "70 Grains Cordite" "500/450" "Case 3 1/4 Inches" is on bottom. Round bodied back spring sidelock top lever action features top tang extended over comb, non automatic bolted safety (SAFE inlaid in gold), pivoting third fastener engaging 3/8" rib extension, bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, & double triggers (front checkered). (The same caliber Teddy Roosevelt used in Africa during his 1909 Safari). flats are stamped w/ London nitro proofs for 70 grains cordite & 480 grain bullet as well as ".450 EX". engraved w/ makers name & address on right & "Field Rifle Trial" information on left. Matching front ramp has flip up moon bead.
